Intuition
The term ‘intuition’ is used to describe thoughts and feelings that come to you quickly and without much reflection. It’s quick insight; a state of knowing that we can’t necessarily justify in a logical way, or support with any thought processes.
The right side of the human brain is associated with the intuitive process, whereas the left side of the brain is associated with logical thought. Human beings need both sides of their brains!

When you live with a dog, you have a great teacher who will sharpen your intuitive skills. It has a lot to do with resting your attention on your beloved. Another way of putting it is that when you have a dog – who doesn’t use human language – you learn to follow your gut instincts.
The more you listen to your intuition, the better you get at it. We all use our logical left brains far too much. Dogs help us to redress the balance.
When you look at your dog and sense that he’s not well – without him giving you any overt symptoms - you are using your intuition. Many of us have taken our dogs to the vet’s, only to be told there’s nothing wrong. But we’ve known differently, and pretty soon the actual symptoms have shown up.
When your dog comes to you and looks at you, your intuition may kick in, as it has for me, and you’ll know whether he wants to play, wants some food, or wants to alert you to a problem. Once, Sammie woke up to tell me that Gwinnie had jumped over the fence, and was out chasing rabbits. Chappie came to me one evening, looked at me, and my intuition told me that I needed to follow him. He took me to the garden to show me that Prudence had also jumped over the fence and was unable to get back inside. In the first example, Sammie was using his intuition to sense that Gwinnie had gone walkabout and that I might want to intervene to keep her safe. In the second example, my own intuition told me that Chappie needed to be heeded.
Dogs are incredibly intuitive – far more intuitive than we are. If we let them, they will teach us how to access The Field: the unseen energies that connect all life together. Intuitive humans have a tendency to know when their loved-ones are unhappy or in pain without needing to be told. Dogs know this automatically about us. We should listen to them more and expand as human beings.
