Thankfully, 98% of what we fear never happens – but it’s worth having a first aid kit so that you’re ready and prepared for emergencies.  I have a larger first aid kit at home, and a smaller one for travelling.

My first aid kit includes:

Salt – to induce vomiting (do not induce vomiting if your dog has swallowed anything acidic or caustic)

Small blunt-ended scissors

Rectal thermometer, made for dogs

Syringe and dropper (for when you need to get fluid or liquid medicines into him)

Gauze pads

Bandages (a variety of widths)

Vetwrap

Vet tape

Cotton wool

Alcohol

Alcohol wipes/antiseptic wipes

Parvaid/VibactraPlus

Serrapet

Transfer Factor

Charcoal (in case he eats something poisonous – this will soak up the toxins)

Colloidal Silver/Hydrosol Silver/Silver Shield (anti viral and anti bacterial)

Neem (anti viral, anti bacterial, soothing to the skin, repels fleas and mosquitoes)

A blanket

A torch

Homeopathic first-aid remedies:

Hypericum spray for cuts and bites (promotes healing and reduces inflammation)

Hepar Sulph 30c – the homeopathic antibiotic alternative

Carbo Veg for simple digestive upsets

Nux Vom for nausea, colic, constipation, and when off food

Arnica for limps and sprains

Rhus tox for sprains

Arsen Alb for watery diarrhoea

Merc Sol for slimy blood-stained stools

Phosphorus for fear of noise (such as thunder or fireworks)

Belladonna for heat stroke with great thirst

Apis Mel for wasp and bee bites, and for swelling

Aconite for shock and travel sickness

Ipecac for vomiting, and travel sickness with vomiting

Bach Rescue Remedy for shock or distress
