Crating/Safe Place
Many people use a crate to transport their dogs, as this can be both comfortable and safe whilst travelling.
Crates can also be used as a safe place in the home. Dogs like their own space, and having a place that is specifically theirs can be very useful. This might be when they are fearful of something like fireworks, or maybe there are new puppies charging around the room and they can keep out of the way and feel comfortable. In the home, unless it’s necessary for some reason, the door should be left open so that your dog has the freedom to come and go as he pleases. Shutting a dog in a crate should only be when they are happy with that or other practical conditions apply. Using a crate as punishment is never a good idea; it will not help your dog to associate the crate as a safe place to be.

Crates are great when used properly - but they aren't a substitute for training your dog. And they’re certainly not designed to be a tool of convenience for humans.
Crates aren’t the only answer, of course. If there's a suitable place in your home, then you can make it your dog’s bed area so they have somewhere they can use when they need it.
Sometimes it’s a good idea to have an area in the home that can be shut off from other areas. Baby gates are great for this, as the dog can still see outside the room, and you can always keep an eye on them.
