Yeast Infections
Yeast Overgrowth is a common underlying but frequently undetected problem in dogs.
Candida is a common yeast that causes serious health issues when it invades the body. It begins as a simple sugar-fermenting yeast which plants itself inside the body, robbing it of vital nutrients, while producing metabolic toxins.
If allowed to spread, it will enter its second phase. Candida then changes into a fungus and becomes the root cause of many disease states.
This phase is called Candidiasis. Once the Candida cycle is triggered, it spreads, destroying the immune system. Many medications, especially antibiotics, actually help the Candida colonies to grow even faster.
The digestive system depends upon good organisms called Probiotics. Candida will impair the digestive system by off-setting the Probiotic balance.
The Dangers of Candida Overgrowth
§ Candida creates toxins that block normal nutrient absorption.
§ They grow into Rhizoids that take root in the intestinal walls causing symptoms similar to Irritable
Bowel Syndrome.
§ Eventually Rhizoids inflame and cause Leaky Gut Syndrome.
§ Once Rhizoid toxins get into the blood, you have Systemic Candida, a fungal invasion that affects
virtually every organ and tissue in the body.
§ Later stages develop into bowel disorders, food intolerances, environmental sensitivities, allergies
and asthma.
§ Auto-immune disorders develop as the body begins attacking itself at cellular level.Symptoms
pointing towards a yeast overgrowth in dogs include a yeasty smell, dry or oily skin, fatigue, poor
appetite, overweight, allergies, skin problems, nervousness, frequent diarrhoea or constipation.
Most people dealing with these issues may believe their pet has allergies. Few vets have any training in Candida and how it contributes to a systemic yeast infection or leaky-gut condition.
Vets may therefore recommend expensive allergy tests, which may indicate that the dog has multiple sensitivities, whereas the immune system is actually compromised by a yeast infection. There may also be underlying thyroid disease.

There are many anti-fungal herbs (VibactraPlus being an excellent remedy) that can help with systemic yeast infections, and I’d recommend consulting a qualified herbalist or holistic vet. Probiotics will also be beneficial. Garlic is anti-fungal, as are grapefruitseed extract and olive leaf extract. Homeopathic Colocynth may also be of assistance but, again, I recommend you consult an holistic vet.
