Deafness
A dog can be born deaf, or deafness can arise as a result of something that happens in life.

A deaf dog can live a full life. Training your deaf dog can be a lot easier than you might think - humans talk far too much, despite our need to continue talking! A deaf dog will read your body signals, including facial expressions. Visual signs are a big part of a dog’s ability to read the environment.
There are, though, many areas in life where hearing is required, and you need to consider how these situations might affect your deaf dog. Walks, being touched, or being woken up are a few examples. Think ahead, and put things in place to help your dog cope with these differences.
Having a disability doesn't take away who the dog is. But it does mean extra consideration, and the owner has a duty of care to provide that.
Sophie, my old Golden Retriever, went deaf when she was about 14. A BodyTalk session brought her hearing back.
